Bio
Tommy was born on June 1, 1944. His parents were Henry Bassham and Nannie Frizzell Bassham. He was the next to the youngest of nine children. Tommy attended elementary and high school (Haylong High School) in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, graduating in 1962. He then attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, which was a Baptist owned school at the time. He graduated in 1966. He later earned his Banking Degree from LSU. He was a cost accountant for 12 years with EI DuPont in Columbia, Tennessee, and Wilmington, Delaware. His main occupation was banking with First Farmers and Merchants National Bank, Maury Federal, Transfinancial Bank, and other banks that transitioned to what is now Regions Bank. On May 29; 1965 while attending Belmont, he married Loretta Lynn Busby, a fellow Belmont student. They married at Belmont Heights Baptist Church’s chapel. He moved at Maury County where he lived except for his time with DuPont in Delaware. Tommy is survived by his wife Loretta, his daughter Jennifer, his son Brian (Melissa) , and three grandchildren - Chaney McKinney (Jared) Sullivan, Megan McKinney, and Lucy Bassham; two brothers - William Ernest (Pete) and David (Vickie)Lee; one sister - Joyce Bassham Hughes, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters - Bettye (Howard) Cornwell, Sue (Buford/ Speed) Plew, Jane (George) Peden; brothers - Charles Bassham, and Jimmie Bassham; sister-in-law - Judy Whitworth Bassham and brother-in-law - Howard Cornwell. A private memorial service was held at 2:00, on February 15, 2017, at Polk Memorial Gardens with Reverend Thomas Anthony Brown officiating. His granddaughter, Megan, sang one of his favorite hymns HOW GREAT THOUGH ART.
