She married Burrell Israel/Irsell ("Curly"/"Curley"/B.I.) Hicks on 5 April 1984 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. From the "Daily Ardmoreite" (Ardmore OK) Friday, 6 April 1894 page 1: "HYMENIAL. Married last night at the residence of the brides [sic] parents in East Ardmore, Burrel [sic] Hicks to Miss Maude Wheeler, Rev. John B. Smith officiating. The wedding was a quiet but agreeable affair. The Ardmoreite extends congratulations." Burrell and Maud had one son, Allen Lee Lynn Hicks, born 9 March 1894 in Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. Died 21 March 1960. Find A Grave 77164432. Her husband B.I. Burrell operated a barber shop, confectionery store, newsstand and restaurant. In the 1900 census, the family of three lived in Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory [Oklahoma] - in 1910 in Kiefer, Creek County, Oklahoma - in 1920 in Mounds, Creek County, Oklahoma. On 2 May 1928, while under investigation for a fire that occurred at his cafe in Kiefer OK, Burrell shot himself in the heart at the freight depot in Sapulpa OK. He is buried in Southern Heights Cemetery, Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. An account of his death can be found in the "Sapulpa (OK) Herald" of 3 May 1928, page 1.
