Evelyn Hensley Ellis July 7, 1923 - March 29, 2020 EVELYN'S OBITUARY U.S. Veteran On March 29th at approximately 11:20 a.m., Evelyn Hensley Ellis passed away peacefully from complications of a series of strokes she suffered. Born Madge E. Hensley in Ft. Worth Texas, on July 7, 1923, she adopted the name Evelyn from her middle initial when in the second grade. Evelyn was the last remaining child of Julia McCutcheon Hensley and Dewey Charles Hensley she was predeceased by Charles Hensley, Marguerite Hensley, Marshall (Robert) Hensley, and Priscilla Spilman. She was one of many Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), the women's branch of the United States Naval Reserve during World War II. Her duties in the service included plane spotting, manufacturing, and communication. She was honorably discharged at the rank of lieutenant in 1946. Following the war, Evelyn pursued her degree in education and later became an elementary school teacher in the Ritenour School District and at Zumwalt School in St Charles. In 1953 she married Paul Howard Ellis and settled with him in St. Louis, Missouri They had three girls. They divorced in 1973. She is survived by her three daughters Cynthia P. Ellis (Krem), Sharon Kay Ellis (Robbin) Murray, and Pamela Suzanne Ellis (McAtee) Evelyn had eight grandchildren, Sarah Krem (Andrews) deceased, Jacob Fuemmeler (Lindsay), Aaron Krem, Justin Fuemmeler, Jamie Fuemmeler, Morgan McAtee, Jonathan Mantle, Mason McAtee.and James Murray. and eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends. She loved her many pets, reading, and had a passion for gardening with a real green thumb. She traveled extensively throughout the United States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as Greece, Italy, Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, Aruba, and Puerto Rico. Evelyn was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Ethical Society, and the TWA women's group. Services: Due to current unforeseen Covid-19 travel restrictions, a memorial will be scheduled in St. Louis at a later date. Internment in the Hensley family plot alongside her parents, sister, and brother will occur at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth also at a later date. A service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory.
