- The Columbus Telegram - November 1956 Funeral services Tuesday for George Hopkin Funeral services for George F. Hopkin, 83, of 2316 18th Street, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Gass Funeral chapel with burial in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Hillman, Methodist pastor, will officiate. The body will lie in state at the Gass chapel until the time of the service. Mr. Hopkin, a retired farmer, died Saturday morning at his home. He was bedfast the last six months. The son of the late Frank and Rachel Hopkin, he was born Sept. 8, 1873 in New York state, coming to Nebraska as a boy when his father homesteaded near Bellwood. At the age of 17, he rented his uncle's farm three miles west of Bellwood where he farmed until November, 1946. On Jan. 24, there 1894 he married Aldora Jacobs in David City, and they made their home on the farm until he retired. They have since lived in Columbus. Mr. Hopkin was a former member of the IOOF lodge for about 30 years. He is survived by his wife; two children, Ben of Omaha and Mrs. Walter (Ilena) Nauenburg of Columbus; two sisters; Mrs. Hiram Davis of Bellwood and Mrs. May Enyeart of Lincoln; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, George Leslie; two daughters, Myrtle and Irene; a brother, Richard and sister Mrs. Ella Loomis.
