Son of Leander Wilson Payne and Emma Ann Cobb. He married Audie Pate and their children were Roy Arthur, Irene Elizabeth, James Allen, Howard, Helen Alice, and Infant Payne. At one time he worked for Armour & Co. in McAlester.
