Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Alice Harris Vestal, 96, of Carthage, Texas will be held privately in the Woods Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Brooksie Alice Armstrong Harris Vestal was born March 31, 1924 in the Pleasant Ridge Community of Panola County, Texas. She passed this life April 13, 2020 in Carthage, Texas. Brooksie was one of eight children born to the marriage of Richard Brooke and Elizabeth Burton Armstrong. She was raised and began school in Pleasant Ridge finishing schools in Carthage. She obtained her nursing credentials through Panola General Hospital, and worked as a surgical nurse. She worked many years through the office of Dr. W. C. Smith, and served as plant nurse for Tyson Foods until her retirement at the age of 78. Mrs. Harris was a longtime member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She loved bowling with her league and spending time with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, John Harris; grandsons, Jeff and Rick Harris; sisters, Annie Lee Williams, Doris Langford, and Larue Armstrong; brothers, James Roy, Burton, and Ray Armstrong. Mrs. Harris is survived by her loving daughter, Jean Whiteside and husband Ed Smith of Lake Murvaul; son, Rick Harris and wife Vicki of Caddo Lake; sister, Margaret King of Tenaha; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
