Bio

Born in Greeley, NE, Joe was the son of Walter "Chub" Gray and Frances "Sid" (Melia) Gray Bowers. Joe graduated from Hastings (NE) St. Cecelia's High School and, upon graduation, served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was a proud member of Teamster Local #554, driving for Yellow Freight Systems for over 30 years. Joe's real passion was serving the Lord. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Phoenix, serving the parish and community as a Eucharistic Minister, Perpetual Adorer, and as a member of the Knights of Columbus and Saint Vincent De Paul Society. Joe attended daily Mass and considered all those he met and worked with at St. Paul's to be members of his extended family. Joe also had a love for hunting, fishing, and was an avid sports fan of his beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Creighton Bluejays. Preceded by : Wife of 54 years: Marie Survived by: Sons: Tim and Dan Gray Daughter: Diane (Derrik) Posthumus Grandchildren: Henrietta and Zoey Omaha World Herald Hansen Mortuary (Phoenix Arizona) March 2020 Visitation will be Thursday, April 2nd at Hansen Mortuary (8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix AZ) from 6-8 PM. As a result of the coronavirus outbreak, only groups of 10 people will be allowed into the Visitation Chapel at one time. A private grave site ceremony will be held on Friday, April 3rd. We realize that Joe has many friends and family that would like to pay their respects and comfort his family at this difficult time, however, times dictate that we adjust based on the coronavirus outbreak. The family plans on having, at a future time, a memorial Mass and celebration of his life.
