Marie Gray, 84, passed away at her home in Phoenix on Aug. 25, 2018. Viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30 with recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 31 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 330 W. Coral Gables, Phoenix 85023. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 23015 N. Cave Creek, Phoenix 85024. Marie was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Carrollton, South Dakota, one of nine surviving children of Francis and Mary (Sheehan) Carroll. She grew up there attending Jesuit High School on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in St. Francis, South Dakota. Following graduation, Marie moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a stenographer for the FBI. She later moved to Nebraska where she met Joseph Gray. The two fell in love and were married in Omaha on April 18, 1964. Marie worked as a key punch operator in the insurance industry when she wasn't staying home to raise her three children. She was very active in the Catholic Church, at St. Bonaventure in Columbus, and then St. Paul's in Phoenix. Marie served more than 30 years of Perpetual Adoration and as an ecumenical minister. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, playing cards, and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include Joseph Gray, her husband of 54 years of Phoenix; sons Tim Gray and Dan Gray of Phoenix; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Derrik Posthumus, and their two children Henrietta and Zoey of Phoenix; and sister Helen Sharkey of Gillette, Wyoming. Marie was preceded in death by seven siblings.
