Bio

Geraldine (Jeri) Ann (Faust) Watts, 80 of Cedar Rapids, NE, died January 15, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha, NE and her body was bequeathed to the Nebraska Anatomical Board. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Levander Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Geraldine (Jeri) Ann (Faust) Watts passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 15, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born January 30, 1932 during a snowstorm to Anton and Margaret (Homan) Faust on a farm just east of Cedar Rapids. Anton went for the country doctor on a horse drawn sleigh cross-country because the roads were impassible, but everything was under control when they returned. She graduated from Cedar Rapids high School in 1950, having already fallen in love with her high school sweetheart and husband to be, Jimmy L. Watts of Primrose, NE. While he served his country in the Korean Conflict she supported herself as a nanny and attended business school in Omaha, then worked at Calvary Cemetery. She and Jim married June 15, 1954 to start their own family. Jim and Jeri made their home on a dairy farm near Cedar Rapids, raised 3 children, and then moved their family to Cedar Rapids in 1970. She served as chief operating officer of Watts Electric for over 40 year. Jeri was an active member of the Saint Anthony's Parish and a lifelong devout Catholic. She was also a member of the Saint Anthony's Altar Society, which she served in her turn as president. In addition, she participated actively in the American Legion Auxiliary as membership coordinator for many years. Many camping and fishing trips to the Black Hills contributed to the variety of rocks among the flowers just southwest of the intersection of "Poverty Ridge" and "Knob Hill." She was known for her needle work, which resulted in warm flannel pajamas and quilts for her children and five grandsons. She loved fried chicken and playing Pinochle when the work of the day was done. She faithfully worked the crossword puzzle in the Omaha World Herald every day, and in later years was a regular at weekly Senior Center card games. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Jim, her son David, her son-in-law and daughter Eric and Patti (Watts) Lofgreen and grandsons Jeffrey and Kevin Lofgreen, her daughter-in-law Christine Watts and grandsons Matt, Lee, and Kade Watts. She is also survived by her brother Bob Faust and wife Kathy of Ocalla Florida, and her brother John Faust of Grand Junction Colorado, and their families. Preceded in death by her parents and son Tom.
