Bio

Mr. Hofmister was retired from Colonial Baking Co. with 34 years service. He also worked for the Pike County Sheriff's Department where he served under five sheriffs and was chief deputy for two. Upon retirement from the sheriff's department in 1994, the Pike County Board of Supervisors presented him with a framed resolution commending for a "compassionate and dedicated life of service." He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served five years in the Pacific during WWII. He was a Mason and a member of the McComb City Lodge F&AM and the Wahabi Shriners' Temple. He was a member of First Baptist Church in McComb where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phil Waits Hofmister; an infant daughter; his parents, John Henry Hofmister and Zula Cooper Hofmister; and one brother. He was survived by his wife of 27 years, Bobbie Travis Hofmister of McComb; one son, Ray C. Hofmister, Jr. and wife Sherrie of Clinton; two daughters, Inez Woods and husband Bill of Summit, and Wilma Howell of Baton Rouge, LA; one brother, Huff Hofmister and wife Dot of Mobile, AL; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
