Bio

Michael James Doskocil, 68, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 28, 2020, in Ennis, Texas. Michael will be buried in his beloved Westphalia, Texas, next to his wife. Born in East Bernard, Texas, to the late James "Jim" Edward and Gladys Catherine Rabroker Doskocil, he lived most of his life in Dallas and recently relocated to Ennis. Michael was an avid bicyclist and marathon runner throughout his life. After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UTA, he was accepted into a photography program in New York City. Determined to bike his way there, he rode an average of 100 miles per day, making it as far as Pennsylvania before his knees gave out and he had to finish the trip via train. At age 45, he and his brother Thomas ran in the 99th Boston Marathon. Later, he was a member of an elite club of runners over age 50 who could finish a mile in less than five minutes. Michael loved photography, classical music, old books, and maps, and due to his love of Latin, his vocabulary was extensive. He had a beautiful writing style and loved learning, reading non-fiction, and talking to people. He resisted technology as much as he could and would have been more at ease in the quill and ink years of generations past. For the last 23 years, he worked for Koetter Fire Protection, installing and monitoring equipment for clients throughout North Texas. Michael was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Loretta Breakiron Doskocil: and nephew, Dale Hicks. Survivors include his much-loved brother, Thomas Doskocil; sisters: Diane Range and her husband, Fritz, Marilyn Wooley and her husband, Alan, Karen Fagerman and her husband, Tim, and Susan Hicks and her husband, Glenn; 12 nephews; 17 nieces; four sisters-in-law; numerous cousins and extended family. He is also survived by his dachshund Pudge, who is lucky to be adopted by his niece, Emily.
