DR. Waunell McDonald Hughes, beloved wife and mother, passed away October 17, 2003. She was born February 6, 1928. Her father was Dr. Conrad Claiborne McDonald, from Tyler, Texas. Her mother was Bernice Oletha Smith McDonald. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1946 and the Baylor University Medical School in 1951. She married Delbert Eugene Hughes, on August 14, 1948. She interned at the V.A. Hospital Houston 1951 - 52; resident Parkland Hospital, Dallas, 1964 - 67; practiced general medicine in Tyler, Texas, 1952 - 64; acting chief psychiatry services V.A. Hospital, Dallas, 1967 - 68, assistant chief, 1968-73, chief Mental Hygiene Clinic and Day Treatment Center, 1973-82, unit chief acute inpatient psychiatry Medical Center 1982-; clinical instructor psychiatry Southwestern Medical School, University Health Science Center, Dallas, 1968; Chairperson pre school vision and hearing Pilot Club, Tyler, Texas, 1960-64. She was a member of American Medical Womens Association (president Dallas 1980-81), American Group Psychotherapy Association, (president Dallas chapter 1984, Alpha Epsilon Iota (president 1950-51.) Responsibility and perseverance were major assets for her. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Delbert E. Hughes, her daughter, Dr. Lark Hughes Waters, her son Mark D. Hughes D.O., her daughter Diana Lynn Hughes Kluth, her son Michael Conrad Hughes and her grandchildren: Robert James Kluth, Gary Michael Kluth; Lauren Hughes, Brian Hughes, and Matthew Hughes; Doug and Andy Waters.
