LaVere "Bud" Hoopes, 89, of Murrells Inlet, SC, died Sunday at Hospice at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospital, Wilmington, NC. Born in Cleveland, ID, he lived in Hamilton Township until moving to South Carolina five years ago. Mr. Hoopes was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a Staff Sergeant. He was a D-Day survivor and a platoon leader of 29 men. He was the Chief of Security at General Motors in West Trenton for approximately 38 years and loved to travel, hunt and fish. Predeceased by his wife, Helen E. Hoopes, who died in 1998, and his grandson, Joseph Gronostajski, who died in 2000; he is survived by his son and spouse, Michael and Francine Hoopes of Murrells Inlet, SC; his daughters and their spouses, Susan and Joseph Gronostajski of Calibash, NC and Sharon and John Fasanella of Greenback, TN; his grandchildren and their spouses, Gregory and Connie Gronostajski, Cristin Hoopes, Jamie and Tom Davis, and Shannon and Josh Dumas; and his great-grandchildren, Mark, Ryan and Maya Gronostajski. A Funeral Service will be held 11:30am Thursday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamilton. Relatives and friends may call 7-9pm Wednesday at the Colonial Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hospice at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospital, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401
