Bio

Son of Oswald & Aurelia (Alt) Bernt. He grew up on the family farm near Osceola where he attended country school. On April 29, 1946 he was united in marriage to Leona Ziemba at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Sylvester farmed in the Duncan area until 1958 when he moved to Columbus. He went to work at the Land O Lakes Alfalfa Mill until his retirement. Sylvester was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed the horse races. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church where he ushered for 16 years. He is survived by: His loving wife of 61 years Leona Bernt of Columbus. Sister Verona Davis of Las Vegas, NV. Son Russell and wife Julia Bernt of Arlington, VA. Son Charles and wife Susan Bernt of Lincoln, NE. Son Greg and wife Elizabeth Bernt of Lincoln, NE. Grandson Jon Bernt of Arlington, VA. Grandson Matthew and wife Elizabeth Bernt of Falls Church, VA. Granddaughter Lisa and husband Andrew Schafers of Lincoln, NE. Granddaughter Lori Moniz of Lincoln, NE Granddaughter Jessica Bernt of Lincoln, NE Granddaughter Michaela Bernt of Lincoln, NE Great Granddaughters Casey Adams, Malerie Adams, Amanda Moniz, and Kara Moniz, all of Lincoln, NE Numerous Nieces and Nephews He is preceded in death by: Parents Brothers Oswald Bernt, Jr. and Leo Bernt
