Bio

Daughter of Henry and Gladys Anderson Porter. She married Roy Dick on March 25, 1967 in Stillwater, OK. She graduated from OSU with a PhD in Home Economics. She was a retired college professor who taught for many years at Univ. of North Texas, Southwestern Oklahoma State Univ. and Texas Women's Univ. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. She is a Wall of Fame Honor recipient at Bridgeport High School. She received the Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1971, the Professional Award of Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1980, the Margaret Fitch Public Relations Award and the OAFCS Service Award in 1994. Her publications include many educational materials for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and childhood nutrition ("A Suggested Curriculum Guide for Preparing Child Care Workers for Entry Level Jobs"). She held numerous positions in the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, served as a consultant to the Bureaus of Indian Affairs, and a dietary and consultant to nursing homes in Oklahoma and Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 45 years, Roy Dick; and brother, John Porter. She leaves her daughter, Denise Caviness and husband, Coy of Garland; son, Jeff Chandler and wife, Julie of Noble, OK; grandchildren, Randee Hawkins and husband, Chase of Runaway Bay, Leighton Kennec of Runaway Bay, Jessica Chandler of Noble, OK and Cole Caviness of Garland; great granddaughter, Hazel Jane Hawkins; foster children, Juanita and Janette Star; brothers, Henry Porter and wife, Anne, Audrey Porter and wife, Beverly, and James Porter and wife Suzanne - all of Dallas.
