Evelyn Marie Dohnal was born on October 26, 1926 to Louis and Josephine (Kokes) Dohnal in the Village of Burwell. She attended country schools in Valley, Garfield and Holt counties; schools included Fort Hartsuff, District 91 and District 14 where she graduated from the eighth grade. After graduation, she worked cleaning and caring for children of many families in the area including the Biglin’s and Coyne’s. She also worked at M&M Bakery making salads. She took pride in the excellent references given for her work. In 1952, Evelyn’s brother Elvin brought a friend home for dinner named Earl McClanahan. Evelyn and Earl began dating shortly thereafter and were married on June 4, 1952 in Neligh, Nebraska. To this union four children were born. They worked hard on their farm together. They milked cows and raised cattle, hogs and chickens. They grew crops of corn, oats, alfalfa, rye and hay. She sold cream and eggs. She was an excellent manager of her time and money. Evelyn was also a wonderful cook; her maple sticks, breads and pies were especially delicious! She loved to fish, raise a garden and preserve food for her family. She cherished animals, especially her kitties. She was humble and hard-working, never expecting recognition or glory. Evelyn had seven grandchildren and loved them all deeply. She gave from her heart. Evelyn is survived by her four children, Ira (Ellen) McClanahan of O’Neill, Irwin (Paula) McClanahan of O’Neill, Gary (JoAnn) McClanahan of Atkinson, Joan Claussen of O’Neill; and stepson, Ivan (Sue) McClanahan of Moore, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Christina (Corey) Simonson of Biloxi, Mississippi, Bethany (Steven) Rowlee of Bellevue, Nebraska, Brian (Brandi) McClanahan of Marion, Iowa, Angela (Brian) Capps of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Dr. Greg (Jackie) McClanahan of Ord, Ross (Sarah) McClanahan of Kearney, and Amanda (Aaron) Hughes of Kearney; 15 great grandchildren, Caleb, Caitlin and Connor Simonson, Cooper, Chloe and Hunter Rowlee, Kaelyn, Kian and Madeyn McClanahan, Anthony Capps, Matthew and Grace McClanahan; Reid McClanahan, and Owen and Emersyn Hughes. She is also survived by siblings, Helen Storjohann of Loveland, Colorado, her twin sister, Adeline Dohnal of Inman, twin brothers, Eldon (LaJean) Dohnal of Taylorsville, Utah, and Elvin Dohnal of LaGrande, Oregon; many nieces and nephews.
