Bio

Tennessee Death Records 1908-1965 shows death date of 31 January 1912, Coffee County, TN. James A Brooks married Jeannett F Thompson 19 March 1865, Williamson County, TN and two boys were conceived, Aaron White Brooks and James Hillary Brooks and Jeannett went missing after 1870, James remarried to Willie P Irvin in 1873 and they have two boys, John Bruce and Lee Brooks. Family history said that he went to Illinois in 1870 and came back to Tennessee where he married Willie. MY Aunt and I think Jennett is at this cemetery, Blanton Chapel or Thompson/Prowell. ----------- NOTE: The Military Headstone posted and in place for our James has the correct dates but has the (wrong) Military unit . ======== Research from History-sites.com: NOTE: Not our James Brooks Residence Halifax VA; Enlisted on 7/26/1864 at Mecklenburg, VA as a Private. On 7/26/1864 he mustered into "A" Co. VA 56th Infantry He died of disease on 7/1/1865 at Halifax County, VA (Brought home sick from prison and never left his bed.) ======== Our James Brooks died in Jan 1912 I may never find the correct Military unit for James, there are many James Brooks in Tennessee. NOTE: Proof James is alive in 1910. Here is our James in 1910 with his wife Willie and in Coffee, Tennessee. 1910 United States Federal Census Name: J A Brooks Age in 1910: 76 Estimated Birth Year: 1834 Birthplace: Tennessee Father's Birth Place: Tennessee Mother's Birth Place: Tennessee Spouse's Name: Willie Brooks Home in 1910: Civil District 7, Coffee, Tennessee Marital Status: Married.
