Dorothy A. Kavan, 87 years, of Morse Bluff, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Nye Pointe in Fremont, Nebraska. Dorothy was born October 29, 1932 on a farm near Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, to Ludvik and Alice (Chromy) Wesely. Dorothy was Salutatorian of her class at Cedar Bluffs High School and was in 4-H. She attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, where she earned her teaching degree. Dorothy married Richard Kavan on January 10, 1951, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Cedar Hill, near Morse Bluff, Nebraska. The couple moved to their farm near Morse Bluff, where Dorothy worked the farmland with her husband, drove tractors, milked the cows, raised poultry, loved gardening, canning, dancing to polkas, and waltz’s (Molly Bee, etc.), playing cards and baking her specialty kolaches, and cream puffs. She was a quilter and received awards from the county and state fairs. She enjoyed farm life and being there for neighbors, family and friends. She loved family time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard died December 12, 2014 and then Dorothy moved to Fremont. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cedar Hill and the church women’s organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Post 340 Auxiliary at Morse Bluff for over 30 years. She is survived by daughter, Diane (Dan) Kortum of Cedar Bluffs; sisters, Mildred (Arsene) Fauquet and Bette (Roger) Hinrichs all of Lincoln, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, close cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
