Audrey Wynona Cook Rankin, age 94, of Atlanta, Texas went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 05, 2020 in a Atlanta, Texas hospital. Born in rural Cass County on August 15, 1925, fifth of seven children born to John Robert “Bob” and Minnie Lee (Humphrey) Cook. She was married to Lennis Morgan “Bill” Rankin. She retired from Thiokol Corporation as a Group Supervisor. Mrs. Rankin was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Atlanta, and had served her church in many capacities over the years. She was also a member of the Cass County Genealogical Society since the 1970’s, and had served as Librarian of the Genealogy section of the Atlanta Public Library for several years. In 2007 she was named Library Volunteer of the year by the Atlanta Public Library and by the Northeast Texas Library System. She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing, mostly family histories, poems and songs. She won distinguished awards from the Texas State Genealogical Society in 1996 on her genealogy column published in the Atlanta Citizen’s Journal, in 2003 on one of her genealogy books and she was honored by the Cass County Genealogy Society with the Myreline Bowman Award in 2006. Mrs. Rankin was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. “Bill” Rankin; son, Sammy Neil Rankin; her daughter, Linda Dawn Lindsey New; her parents; and her six siblings. She is survived by her two children, Paul Rankin and wife Cheryl of Atlanta, Texas; Jill Rankin Daniel and husband Ken of Pearland, Texas; son-in-law, Richard New and wife Susan of Atlanta, Texas; grandchildren, Ronald Lindsay and wife Angelina, John Lindsay and wife Shirley, Daniel Lindsay and wife Melody, James Rankin and wife Shelly, Craig Rankin and wife Mandi, Stephanie Daniel, Katy Daniel Cottrell and husband Nathan; great-grandchildren, Devon Rankin, Dillon Rankin, Joseph Lindsay, Noah Lindsay, Rebekah Nelson, Avalyn Phillips, Victoria Phillips, Aria Allgood, Dorian Allgood, Elizabeth Dawn Lindsay, and Christina Garza; great-great-granddaughter, Gracie Faye Rankin. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens, all of whom she loved. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church, Atlanta, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Rev. Jacob Smith officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 10, 2020 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.
