Linda Faye Johnson Denton, 77, of Idalou passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 in Lubbock. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church, 4401 North University Avenue, in Lubbock. Private family graveside services will be held at the Idalou Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 – 8 PM on Sunday at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou, and the family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM. Please visit www.moore-rose.com for obituary information and service details. Linda was born on December 30, 1942 in Wellington, Texas to Fay Isom Johnson and Ollie Faye Holton Johnson. She had been a lifelong resident of Idalou, where she attended Idalou schools. She was a band member, majorette, cheerleader, student council member, and a FHA member and officer. She attended Girls State, was a class favorite, Lion’s Club sweetheart, football sweetheart, and an all-district basketball player. She was a 1961 Honor graduate of Idalou High School and a graduate of Office Management & Education at Lubbock Christian College. She had married Ronnie Stanton in 1961, and they had 4 children, Tim, Matt, Daniel, and MeLin. Linda married James Jackson Denton on April 12, 1980 in Idalou, and they shared 6 children. Linda was an active member of the Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church. At Harmony Plains Singing School, a Church Camp affiliated with the Primitive Baptist Foundation at Cone, Texas, she taught preschoolers for 15 years. From 1981 - 2008, she begun the management of the purchasing and food preparation at the Singing School. She served as Area I President and other offices in the Young Homemaker of Texas and Idalou organizations. She was a member of the West Texas Edna Gladney Adoption Auxiliary and a volunteer and member of the West Texas Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America. She was an Idalou School Volunteer, a Room Mother, a Girl Scout Leader, and coached Idalou Little Dribbler Junior Basketball and All-Star teams. Linda worked as a warranty clerk for Hufstedler GMC in Lubbock, a substitute teacher for Idalou Independent Schools, and as an office manager and reporter for The Idalou Country Press. She also worked as an office manager and preneed counselor for White Funeral Home in Idalou, as a crop insurance clerk for The Isom Agency in Idalou and was self-employed bookkeeper. She and her husband, Jack, owned and operated Denton’s Service Center in Idalou and farmed near Idalou. Her hobbies included loving and caring for her grandchildren, celebrating all holidays, her beloved dachshunds, collecting recipes, Southern Gospel music and videos, her Christmas Village display, watching basketball games (especially the Lady Raiders & her grandchildren), shopping for bargains, and working in her yard. Linda is survived by her sons, Matt Stanton and wife, Katrina of Idalou and Daniel Stanton and wife, Stacy, of Idalou, daughter, MeLin Bartlett and husband, Shawn, of Burleson, stepson, Tim Denton and wife, Kathy of Lubbock, stepdaughter, Julie Denton of Lubbock, 10 grandchildren, Justin Stanton and wife, Jessica, Blane Stanton, Garret Stanton, Shaina Stanton, Jackson Stanton, Kyla Stanton, Nathan Bartlett, and Ethan Bartlett, Casey Denton and wife, Korey, and Evan Denton and wife, Macy, and 2 great grandchildren, June Stanton and Teagan Bartlett. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, son, Timothy Brooks Stanton, granddaughter, Shayli Marie Stanton, her parents, F.I. and Ollie Faye Johnson, 2 sisters, Barbara Jackson and Sandra Hays, and brother, George Johnson.
