"Heavy" was born in Anna, Texas, the son of John & Maude Lillian (Baker) Minton. He died in Gunter, Texas. He married Miss Evelyn Shaw in Dallas, Texas on June 26, 1937, a marriage that last 55 years upon her death. He was a U.S. Navy veteran that served during World War II. "Heavy" worked for Safeway for 46 years, the Dallas Museum of Arts for six years, and also worked for Flesher Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas, for several years. He was a founding member of Lavon Drive Baptist Church in Garland, Texas where he remained a member until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillian ; wife, Evelyn Minton ; sister, Lucille Dupré; brothers George , Clyde and Carl Minton . He was survived by his son, Floyd and his wife Delores Minton of Van Alstyne; grandson, Terry Minton of Garland, Texas' granddaughters, Angelia and Amanda Minton of Van Alstyne; great-granddaughter, Abigail Burns of Van Alstyne; brothers, Don and his wife Betty Minton of Mansfield, Texas, and Albert "Smitty" and his wife, Dorothy Minton of Plano, Texas; sisters, Margaret and her husband Bill Durning of Plano, Jackie and her husband Jack Walker of Hurst, Texas and Mary Minton of Gunter; sisters-in-law, Jean Minton of Sherman, Texas and Jewel Minton of Dallas; Mary Garner of Greenville, Texas and Diane Garner of Arlington, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Memorial services were held at Elmont Baptist Church in Van Alstyne, with Dr. Gary Coleman, Dr. John McCartt, Brothers Jim Poole and Bruce Stinson, officiating.
