James Calvin McGriff age 88, of Star City, passed away Friday, December 6 2019 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Calvin was born February 9, 1931 in Star City to the Late Robert Monroe and Fairy Vermillion McGriff. Mr. McGriff was a self-employed logger, was a member of the Pigeon Roost Saddle club, Pigeon Roost hunting club, and the coon hunter’s association. He loved hunting, fishing, and was an overall great outdoorsman. He was also of the Baptist faith. Also preceding him in death was his loving wife Juanita Marie McGriff; six brothers, Buddy McGriff, Arthur McGriff, Clyde McGriff, Monroe McGriff, Chester McGriff, and Hoyt McGriff, and four sisters; Edna Nutt, Emogene Reynolds, Beatrice McGriff, and Irene Noland. Survivors include three sons; Dale McGriff and wife Candy of Star City, John McGriff and wife Nat of Hot Springs, and Robert McGriff and wife Tammy of Star City, two daughters; Barbara Ann Sterling and Husband Lawrence of Greenwood, and Mary Haynes and husband Mark of Star City, one sister, Eva Cogbill of Hot Springs, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
