Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at First Methodist church, with Dr. Lowell Jones officiating, and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial cemetery. The body is to lie in state after 1 p.m. Thursday at Gass Funeral Home. Born in Butler county April 14, 1883, she was the daughter of James and Almira Whaley Jerdon. She attended Butler county schools. She was married to Adolph Bernt Nov. 26, 1902, at David City. They made their home eight miles north of Shelby in Polk county until 1956, when they moved to Columbus. Mrs. Bernt is survived by her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Edith) Wells, Mrs. P.W. (Velma) Elliott and Mrs. Arthur (Cleo) Mayberger of Columbus; one granddaughter and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Lew (Cora) Seiz of Bellwood. She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Bernt of Columbus; three brothers, James, John and Samuel Jerdon; and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Eldridge, Mrs. Harriet Wickard and Mrs. Anna Thompson. The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Heart Fund.
