Bio

MARIE TERESA VRAZEL Marie Teresa Vrazel, 90, of Danbury, left this earth to be with God on May 6, 2004, in Angleton. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony’s with burial following at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Vrazel was born on Nov. 1, 1913, in Sealy, Texas, to Vaclav & Olga Jez Pavlicek. She attended school through the fourth grade in Mixville, Texas. Due to the hardships of a poor, hardworking family, she had to quit school and stay home to take care of her sister and brothers so her mother could work in the fields. She moved to Angleton in 1932. Due to the Catholic Church in Angleton burning sometime in 1932, her family decided to attend church services at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Danbury. While attending church she met a handsome red-faced boy named Donat Vrazel and fell in love. They were married Oct. 24, 1934. Together, they had 11 children. Marie was a wonderful, loving wife and mother, and dedicated her life to her family. Her family always came first. The Vrazel family had a farm where they raised cotton, rice and other grains, and also began a hay bailing business. In 1965, they opened the historical “Vrazel Ballroom,” a place where you could take your entire family and have a good time. They served Donat’s meaty barbecue buns and Marie’s melt-in-your-mouth kolaches. Anytime there was company at the house, there always was food on the table and a hot cup of coffee. She always wanted to make sure no one that came to her home ever went hungry. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Donat Vrazel, infant daughter Bernadette Vrazel, her parents, brothers, Edward, John, Bill, Joe and Fred, and sister, Adella Listak. She is survived by her 10 children: Sister Anna Marie of San Antonio, Florin Vrazel & wife, Maureen, Martha Schaat & Robert Ruiz, Edwin Vrazel & wife, Linda, Joe Vrazel & wife, Nina, Paul Vrazel & wife, Marianne, Louis Vrazel & wife, Pat, Lillie Spillars & husband, Joe, Theresa Jones, Margaret Bargas & husband, Mike. Sister: Tillie Svoboda & husband, Arnold, of Damon; 44 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Henrietta Prihoda of Danbury, Clara Sulak & husband, Victor, of Rosenberg and Jeanette Vrazel of Danbury and brother-in-law, Cleo Wendel of Cuero and five foster children. Pallbearers will be Billy Schaatt, John Vrazel, Sonny Vrazel, Jarrod Vrazel, Daryn Vrazel, Jeremy Breaux, Thomas Jones and John Spillars. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Palms Funeral Home. The Brazosport Facts, May 9, 2004
