Bio

Nina Ruby Christensen Sheeder, 82, of Adair passed away Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Samaritan Center, in Fontanelle. Nina was born June 27, 1923 the daughter of Hans Peter and Mette Kjerstine Sophie (Hansen) Christensen in Guthrie County. She was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic on August 19th, 1923 and confirmed August 14th, 1938 in the Lutheran Church in Guthrie Center. She attended school in Guthrie County and graduated from the eighth grade July 6, 1937. She met Elmer Sheeder at a square dance in 1943 and on July 29th, 1944 they were married in Shenandoah, Iowa. They farmed in Adair County until their retirement. They moved to Adair in February 1989. Nina was a devoted mother and grandmother. Most of all she enjoyed playing cards and square dancing with family and friends. Nina was always active in the farm operation and loved to drive the grain truck. Nina is survived by her husband of 61 years, Elmer Donald Sheeder of Adair; daughters Shirley and husband John Staggs of Belleville, IL; Patsy and husband Larry Silvey of Omaha, NE; Ardis and husband Frances McGinnis of Dexter; Cindy and husband Mike Nelson of Pleasant Hill; Beverly and husband Darrell Moore of Des Moines; Louise and husband Darrel Lawson of Kirksville, MO; sons Alvin Sheeder and wife Kathy (Uhlman) of Adair; Robert Sheeder and wife Sally (Kuster) of Panora; Kenneth Sheeder and wife Wendy (Jobst) of Greenfield; Mike Sheeder and wife Suzanne (Eklund) of Menlo. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her sister Dora Rehling of Audubon, and sister-in-law Mildred Christensen of Adair; Georgia Christensen of Adel; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Henry, Elmer, George, and Arthur Christensen and two sisters: Goldie Christensen and Iva Fredericksen; and one great-grandchild. Funeral service was held 1:30pm Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Adair, Iowa by Pastor John Emerson. Organist was Susanne Sheeder and Soloist was Kathy Moon. Burial at Sunny Hill Cemetery, Adair, Iowa.
