NOTE: There is a discrepancy with his date of birth. His birth record is attached and lists him as being born on February 28...not February 29. Henry Marek, 90, of Austin, formerly of Taylor, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at his residence. Henry was born Feb. 29, 1916 as a leap year baby. He was in the Army during WWII, contracted rheumatic fever and was medically discharged, missing the Death March on Batan to which his unit was headed. On Nov. 3, 1945 he married Verna Baranowski. Son Michael was born in 1949, daughter Deborah was born in 1952, both in Taylor. In late 1952 the family moved to Corpus Christi. In the mid-sixties, the family moved to Austin, where Henry continued his career in sales, continually leading the state in truck sales. In the late sixties he purchased some grass land in the country, where fishing, fixing fences and looking after the cattle kept him busy. He is survived by his son, Michael Marek of Austin, daughter Debi Martin of Austin, grandchildren Kinnon Martin and Jenna Martin both of Austin, brother George Marek of Johnson City. He is preceded in death by his wife, and nine brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2006 from 4-6 pm at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, June 16, 2006 at 11 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Taylor with Msgr. Lonnie Urban and Rev. James Hejl officiating. Burial will follow in Taylor City Cemetery.
