Pauline C. Hughes Hodges was born April 2, 1920, and departed this life May 23, 2010, at the age of 90. She was born in Metcalfe County, the fourth child of James Robert "Rob" Compton and Virgie Kate Frogge Compton. She married John Woodrow Hughes in 1935. He preceded her in death. Pauline was a farmer, poet, artist, lover of animals, gardener extraordinaire and creator of beautiful memories. She was a member of the Bellview Church of Christ. Pauline departed this world Sunday at the home of her great-niece, Anne Saltsman, surrounded by many of the people she loved. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Mary Froedge, Kathleen Clemmons, Sybil Grace Compton, Mattie Lundy and Florence Thompson; two brothers, Marcum and Henry Compton. She leaves behind one sister, Sue Acree of Edmonton, and one brother, Howard Compton of Inverness, Fla.; a niece, Jill Acree Harper, and a nephew, Pete Acree; great-nieces, Anne Railey Saltsman and Susan Barton; great-nephews, Cam and Pete Saltsman; special great-great-nieces and nephews, Brianna Railey, Cameron, Taylor, Trevor, Jack, Nicolas, Nathaniel, Kaleb and Aiden. She also leaves many other much loved nieces and nephews and their families, along with Larry and Robin Saltsman. Remains will be taken to Bellview Church of Christ Cemetery.
