Bio

Thomas (Tom) Molczyk of Columbus died Monday, September 16, 2019 in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019 at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at McKown Funeral Home. There will be a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation continues on Thursday from 9:30 am until service time at St. Isidore's. Interment is in All Saints Cemetery with Military Honors by Hartman Post #84 American Legion Honor Guard. Thomas “Tom’ Molczyk was born September 9, 1934 outside of Albion, Nebraska to Thomas and Anna (Barnas) Molczyk. He graduated from Albion High School in 1952. After graduating, Tom went to work several different jobs including helping on the family farm until joining the US Army in November of 1955. Upon discharge from the Army, he moved to Columbus. In March of 1959, Tom began his longtime career with the Columbus Police Department. On June 25, 1960 Tom was united in marriage to Janice Janicek at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in rural Bellwood, NE. After working for the police department for over 32 years, he retired. Shortly after retiring from the police department, Tom began working different part-time jobs, including helping with funerals at McKown Funeral Home. The couple enjoyed taking various trips around the world with friends. Tom was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the VFW Post 3704. He loved woodworking and was involved in many a building project including home additions, building cabins and building garages. He is survived by: Wife Janice “Jan” Molczyk of Columbus Daughter Marla Graff of Ainsworth Son Kevin (Lana) Molczyk of Papillion, NE 6 Grandchildren: Tina, Lucas, Tyler, Steven, Allison, and Lydia 3 Great Grandchildren: Alexis, Consondra, and Jayvion Sister: Anita (Ray) Ksiazek of Fremont, NE Several Nieces and Nephews He is preceded in death by: His parents Sisters: Mary Shemek and Rose Ann Braun
