Bio
Robert "Bobby Joe" Kucera, age 80, of Penelope, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019, at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 pm Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at Church of the Nativity of the BVM, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Denver Crawley. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Penelope, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Robert was born August 14, 1939, in Penelope, the son of Wilson and Lillian (Karlik) Kucera. He graduated from Penelope High School in 1957. On May 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Judy Dodson in Penelope. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2009. Robert and his wife Judy owned and operated Kucera Service Station for over 20 years. He also worked for Downing Brothers, Westex Welding, Alvin Gehrels Bulldozing and read meters for the Penelope Water Supply Corp. Robert was a member of Church of the Nativity of the BVM. He was also a member of K.J.T. Society #50 in Penelope, Penelope Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a former Mayor of Penelope. Robert enjoyed working on the farm with the cattle, camping at Lake Navarro Mills and skiing, playing taroky. Robert also loved spending time with his family especially his nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bernard Kucera; in-laws, Roy and Ivy Lou Dodson; sister-in-law, Minnie Dodson; nephews, Michael Kucera and Steven Kucera; nieces, Donna Dodson and Cherie Dodson. Survivors include his two brothers, Johnny Kucera and wife Claudine of Penelope, David Kucera and wife Susan of Mt. Calm; nieces, Janice Chase and husband Rodger, Paula Dodson, Cindy Ruff and husband Bruce, Amy Redden, and Toni Townsend; nephews, Phillip Kucera, Joshua Kucera and wife B. J., Kyle Kucera and wife Lety, Thomas Kucera, Shawn Dodson, Richard Dodson, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Jerrell Dodson and Richard Dodson and wife Lynn; and many great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Rodger Chase, Phillip Kucera, Joshua Kucera, Kyle Kucera, Thomas Kucera and Brandon Rutledge. Obituary published online 7 Sep 2019 by Aderhold Funeral Home, West, Texas.
