Donald "Kootch" Kucera, 74, of Lincoln, died Nov. 9 at the Saunders County Hospital in Wahoo. Kucera was born Oct. 29, 1931 to Albin and Bessie (Blazek) Kucera in Weston. He grew up there and graduated from Weston High School in 1949. After graduation he began working for Wescott and Bowen Construction Company in Lincoln and helped build the Saunders County Hospital and the old high school auditorium. In 1958 he began working for Burlingon Northern Railroad, retiring in 1992 after 34 years with the company. On Oct. 15, 1955 he married Joyce Nelson at the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo. He was a member of the Moose Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 175 in Lincoln, the First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo, the Kazoos, the Burlington Northern Clown Club and a past vice president of the Burlington Northern Campers Club. His parents; a nephew, Allan Jansa, his father-in-law, Gordon Nelson, and brother-in-law, Donald Jansa, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; a sister, Arlene Jansa of Weston; his mother-in-law, Sylvia Nelson of Weston; sisters and brothers-in-law, Fern Jansa of Weston, Bill and Linda Semrad of Weston, Joe Jansa Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Randy Jansa, Bill Semrad Jr., Bradley Semrad, Jon Williams, Gary Kucera, Russell Andresen and Dan Svoboda. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Semrad Sr., Lori Williams, Rhonda Andresen, Glenn Jansa and Marla Roberts.
