Bio

Mary Lou Dallas was one of two children born to James Walter II and Monta Ota (Wilson) Dallas. Her father, James Walter Dallas II was the son of Reuben T. and Lou Kate (Harmon) Dallas. Reuben T. was my paternal great grandfather, making Mary Lou my first cousin once-removed. Mary Lou married Griswold.. She spent much of her adult life living in Oklahoma. We heard that her father worked for the circus, headquartered in Ringling. Mary Lou died February 15, 1950, in Oklahoma and is buried at the IOOF (Int'l Order of the Free Masons), aka Ringling Memorial Cemetery in Jefferson County, OK. Mary Lou Dallas (daughter of James Walter and Mona Ota) married Loren Monroe Griswold on 16 Oct 1939. Thanks to Kathleen O'Brien who provided much of the data on this couple (10/9/25) Griswold apparently had some difficulty doing things in acceptable ways. A taxi driver, cited in one newspaper article that Loren Griswold had him drive around for 7 hours and then told the taxi driver he had no money. (Reno, NV Gazette, Oct. 20, 1941.) Loren was cited as inducted to the Army in 1941, also the Reno Gazette, Oct. 2, 1943. Mary Lou Griswold, Vallejo, CA, filed for divorce from Loren M. Griswold, Dixon, on September 9, 1945 p. 27, on the grounds of desertion. The Times-Herals, Vallejo, CA, page 27. A suit for divorce August 31, 1945, Mary Lou requested the court grant a divorce from Loren M. Griswold, who had deserted her for a year and longer, it cited in the papers. Filed at Washoe County, Nevada. She ended up divorcing him for desertion in 1945. Or at least that's when the divorce started. Which explains why I could not find her in the 1940 census. She's in Nevada under her married name. Her only sibling was Roma Ota Dallas (1914-1985) . Mary Lou Dallas Griswold is mentioned in a Ryan Leader newspaper, Friday May 8, 1942, page 8, in a legal matter along with her parents, and other relatives. It involved Lots 23 and 24, Block 78 of Ringling, OK. Mary Lou Dallas' obituary, The Ringling Eagle (Ringling, Oklahoma) · Thu, Feb 16, 1950 · Page 1, cites in part: Mary Lou since finishing school has been employed in Dallas and Las Vegas. She returned to the home of her mother in Ringling Dec. 25, 1949 and has been ill ever since. She died February 15, 1950, at the home of her mother. Her took her maiden name, Mary Lou Dallas. Surviving are her mother, Monda Dallas, Ringling, OK; her sister Mona Hayes in Dallas, TX. Her father, James Walter Dallas, preceded her September 16, 1937.
