Richard (Dick) Lee Wardyn, son of Hubert and Sally Mae Golus Wardyn, was born December 17, 1949, in Redfield, Iowa. The family moved to Hayfield, Minnesota in 1951, where he spent his childhood, before moving to the Guthrie Center area in 1965. In 1968, he met Sandra Sue Hebing, his wife of 49 years, and they started a family. Dick worked at John Deere in Macedonia before opening up Wardyn’s Machine Shop with his brother Tom in Guthrie Center. In 1984, he started working at McAlister’s Parts and Equipment in Bayard until around 2002. Dick enjoyed gardening and spending time at the family pond as his kids were growing up. He never missed an opportunity to start an argument, and then walk away. He was a very proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren, MacKenzie (Chad), Jared, Madison, Caden, Jadeyn, Kennedy, Clayton, Ashton, Sawyer, and Max; and great-Papa to Charlotte Mae. Dick is survived by his wife, Sandra; five children, Jen (Kevin), Jamie (Jessica), Nikki (Lonnie), Dustin (Chelsie) and Shylo (Jesse); two siblings, Tom (Mary), Shirley (Dick) and Wayne; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Jamie Matthew, in 1971; his parents; his uncle, LaVerne; his brothers, Paul Jack, Hubert, Gene, and sister, Kathy. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
