Bio

Lett William Brewer, 86, of Alda died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at home with his family by his side. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kleine Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mr. Brewer was born May 14, 1925, in Garfield County to George Robert Brewer and Lourene Bonnie Connor. On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Helen Poling Powers in Burwell. He was preceded in death by three sons, David Brewer, James Powers and Thom Powers. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Helen Brewer of Alda; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Victor Powers of Broken Bow, Robert and Diane Brewer of Grand Island; and a daughter Sharon and Steve Arnold of Kearney; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Wynona Marshall of Ord and Bonnie and Dick Carney of Aurora. Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by grandson-in-law, Mike Doheny, one sister, Melrae Kovarik and brother, Floyd Brewer. He attended school and grew up in the Burwell area. As a young man he worked on ranches in the area. He drove the local propane delivery truck several years before driving for Missouri Valley Construction. After retirement he drove part time for Island Land Handlers in Grand Island. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed telling stories that might bring a smile and he seemed to have one for every occasion. He enjoyed painting and creating quilt blocks for his grandchildren's baby quilts. His pastime was playing cards - either alone or with family.
