The Lawrence Locomotive (Lawrence, NE), Thursday, May 4, 1950; pg. 1 OSTDIEK - PAVELKA At a beautiful and Impressive) double ring ceremony performed at St. Stephens Church, Tuesday, May 2 at 8:30, Miss Viola Ostdiek daughter of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Ostdiek became the bride of Alvin Pavelka son of Mr and Mrs Wm Pavelka. The Rev. B J Haskamp officiated at the exchange of the marriage vows and was celebrant of the nuptial high mass. The Altars were adorned with Calli Lillies (sic) and mixed bouquets of spring flowers. Music was under the direction of the St. Stephens choir. The bride choose for her wedding, a gown of bridal white slipper satin. The fitted bodice was fashioned with a deep yoke of net and lace, accented by a full lace ruffle. The fitted sleeves tapered at the wrist and tiny satin covered buttons closed the back of the waist. The graceful folds of the full skirt fell into an aisle wide train- The bottom of the front of the skirt was gathered into deep scallops which fell over s flounce of imported lace, lace also edged the train. Her double tiered finger tip veil was edged in lace and fell from a coronet beaded with iridescent beads. She carried a bridal bouquet of easter (sic) lilies centerted (sic) with an orchid corsage. Her triple st (sic) and pearl necklace was a gift of her groom. The bride choose for her attendants her sister, Miss Rita Ostdiek and a cousin, Miss Marian Ostdiek who wore nylon marquihette (sic) dresses of yellow and pink respectively. The fitted bodice was trimmed with a round lace yoke and had tiny puffed sleeves. The full skirt was trimmed with lace inserts. They wore cornets trimmed with rinhestones (sic). Miss Rita Ostdiek carried a bouquest of red roses and Miss Marian Ostdiek carried a bouquet of yellow roses, both had blue rosaries a gif of the bride. The grooms attendants were, his cousin Roland Hoelting and Vincent Ostdiek, brother of the bride, all wore grey business suits with white carnation boutonneries (sic). Bernard Ostdiek and Don Janda were ushers. The bride's mother wore a black dress while the groom's mother was attired in navy blue both had matching accessories and wore corsages of gardinias (sic) The grandmothers corsages were pink carnations Following the church ceremony a reception and dinner for about 75 relatives and friends was given in the St. Stephens hall. The brides table was centered with a three teired (sic) wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, lighted tapers, bouquets of Calli lillies (sic), white gladioli and mixed spring flowers graced the tables. The beautiful Calli lillies (sic) and gladioli were sent from Gardena California by an aunt of the groom, Mrs. John Janda. In the evening: the bridal coup- le entertained their many relatives and friends at a dance in the St. Stephens hall. The bride attended St. Stephens school. The groom is a graduate of Deweese high school and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After a short honeymoon trip Mr and Mrs Pavelka will be at home on a farm 4 miles west of Fairfield. ========================== The Nuckolls County Locomotive-Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 17, 2018; pg. 16 Mr. Alvin Leroy Pavelka, 93, of Woodstock, died on Friday, May 04, 2018 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain at the age of 91. He was born on October 16, 1924 in Spring Ranch, Nebraska, and was the son of the late William J. Pavelka and Agnes E. Mazour Pavelka. Mr. Pavelka was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church of Cartersville and was self-employed as a farmer. He was a veteran, having served his country in the Navy during WWII, a member of the veteran of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #256, which are in Fairfield, Nebraska. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Viola Dorothy Ostdiek Pavelka; his daughter, Sheila Pavelka; and his son, Lynn Pavelka. Survivors include his children, Arlene Quellet of Woodstock, Georgia Bonnie Machin of Acworth, Georgia; Cheryl Waples of Lincoln, Nebraska, Darrel Pavelka of Wichita, Kansas and Brian Pavelka, of Atlanta. Georgia; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on June 8, 2018 at St Martins Cemetery, Deweese, Nebraska.
