[from the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary website, clasenjordan.com, retrieved 21 Sept 2020] Gladys Parmenter, age 96 of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at St. Mark’s on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Gladys was born April 23, 1924 in Freeborn County to Stanley and Anna (Krikava) Moucha. She graduated in 1942 from Albert Lea High School, and went on to complete her degree from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. Following graduation she began her employment as a bookkeeper with Geo A. Hormel Company. On August 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to Lowell D. Parmenter in Albert Lea. Gladys continued to work at Hormel for 9 years before becoming a full time homemaker, and assisting her husband on the family farm south of Austin. She enjoyed baking, taking care of baby calves and being with Skippy, the family dog. The highlight of her day was always when her two grandchildren came to visit. Gladys always welcomed them with open arms. Her great-granddaughter always brought a smile to her face. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin. Survivors include her children Nancy (David) Ludwig of Austin, Gary Parmenter of Austin; grandchildren Philip Ludwig, Renee (Jeanne) Parsons; great-granddaughter Jade Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lowell; brother Ed, and a granddaughter. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mark’s and Heartland Hospice for their loving care. A private family service will be held with interment at Enterprise Cemetery in rural Austin. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
