Son of Charles Stanley & Dorothy F. (Kowalski) Molczyk. Married to Dorothy E. Wendt on 6-19-1951. RAND ISLAND - George S. Molczyk, 76, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Leo's Catholic Church with Father John R. Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday at the church beginning at 4 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m. Kleine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. George was born March 25, 1931, at Spalding, the son of Charles Stanley and Dorothy F. (Kowalski) Molczyk. He attended grade school in St. Libory and high school in Alda, quitting in the 10th grade to work for the Union Pacific Railroad to help support the family. On June 19, 1951 he married Dorothy E. Wendt. In 1953 he got laid off from the UPRR so they moved to Omaha where he worked for Ed Burns remodeling old houses until he got laid off after two and one-half years. They then moved to Long Beach, Calif., and in 1956, they returned to Grand Island where he was employed in the Montgomery Wards Automotive Dept. In 1959 he began working for the Grand Island Fire Dept. as a firefighter, retiring after 21 years. From 1960-64 he was co-proprietor of Molczyk's Coin Shop in Grand Island. During his retirement, he worked for the Propane Co. in St. Paul, then as a driver for 12 and one-half years on the Hall County Handi-Bus/Senior Citizens Industries. During his retirement, he also worked as a security guard at Husker Harvest Days and at Fonner Park. He pursued many interests throughout his life. His hobbies included fishing, inventing fish bait, growing worms, camping, traveling, wine making, gardening, coin collecting, and enjoyed Nebraska Football and was an Arm Chair Quarterback. He loved to visit with his brother Ray, his children and grandchildren. George is survived by one son, Larry and wife Dorothy Molczyk of Aurora; five daughters, Cathy Bartlett and husband Tim of Grand Island, Doris and husband Daryl Bartlett of Grand Island, Beverly and husband Scott Meyers of Grand Island, Gail and husband Ron Evans of Anchorage, Alaska, Karen and husband Bill Earl of Grand Island; one brother, Raymond and wife Adeline of Grand Island; two sisters, Rose Zelasney of Schuyler, and Lorraine and husband Mel Oberschulte of Grand Island. George was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy E.; brother, Clement; grandson, Joshua; and his parents. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are suggested to the family.
