Susan Bridger Thompson Uphoff of Winston-Salem, NC, died June 12, 2019. She was born April 19, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clyde Mae Averill and Frank Donald Bridger (deceased). After the remarriage of her mother, she was adopted by her stepfather, Jack McCauley Thompson. She attended schools in Topeka, Kansas, and was a graduate of Washburn University. In 1949, she was married to Fredrick Allen Uphoff. They moved to Winston-Salem in 1970. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Fredrick Allen Uphoff Jr.; her son-in-law, Fred Turner Wade; and her grandson, Carl Fredrick Schill. Survivors include her daughter, Emily Wade; her son, Kurt Uphoff and wife, Carol; her sister, Linda Hunt; granddaughter-in-law, Emily Schill; granddaughter, Susan Halsey and husband, Scott; grandson, Frederick Uphoff and wife, Amanda; granddaughter, Emilie Kay and husband, Bryan; great-grandsons, Jonah Dobbs (Schill) and Abram Schill; and great-great-granddaughter, Jaimee Dobbs (Schill). Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, with interment in the church graveyard.
