Bio
Olen E. Phillips, 90, of Amarillo, died Saturday, March 21, 1998. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, Bell Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Dr. Charles Jones of Second Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Phillips was born in Quanah. He moved to Amarillo 38 years ago from Childress. He was employed as foreman in the Amarillo College physical plant maintenance department from 1961 until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He married Christine Lumpkin in 1935 at Acme. She died in 1994. He also was preceded in death by a son, Donald Phillips, in 1987. Survivors include two sons, Darryl Phillips of Austin and Mike E. Phillips of Amarillo; a sister, Edith Tweedy of Ada, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4506 Scotswood Dr. In lieu of flowers, they request memorials be to Amarillo Multiservice Center for the Aging, 3108 S. Fillmore, Amarillo, Texas, 79110.
