George was the son of Christopher and Nancy (Seright). He married Pauline Clariadge 8/28/1884 in Moultrie County Illinois. they had 5 children.
SULLIVAN NEWSPAPER 7/24/1942 GEORGE MONROE DIED FRIDAY AT THIS HOME George Monroe passed away at his home in this city, Friday. His death was due to a paralytic stroke which he suffered several weeks ago. He was born Sept. 17, 1864 in Moultrie county and was a life long resident of this city. On August 28, 1886 he was united in marriage with Paulina Clariadge. She passed away about a year ago. Surviving him are four children,Chris Monroe of this city,Miss Telva Monroe of Kankakee,Mrs.O.L.Baker of this city and H.E.Monroe of Iowa,also six grandchildren,Mrs.W.M. Hostetler and Wayne Monroe of this city, Z. O.Monroe of Peoria,Betty Monroe of Iowa, Mrs.William Byrkit of Decatur and Miss Ruth Monroe. Seven greatgrand children and one sister,Mrs. W.H.Smith of Decatur. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4 oclock at the Oak Grove church,near Dunn,conducted by the Rev.C.E.Barnett. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. The pallbearers were Ralph Hanrahan,Orr Hilliard,Virgil Booker,Claude Wheeler, Truman White and Noah Smith.
