Bio

Dorothy Brouwer, 87, of Iowa Falls, died on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City. Memorial services at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls. Dorothy Opal Thurston Brouwer was born on May 3, 1931, in Sheffield, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Elsie (Heeren) Thurston. She graduated from Sheffield Public School and attended college at the Radio Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. On June 6, 1957 Dorothy married Duane Cecil Brouwer. Dorothy worked in banking for many years and was employed with the Sheffield Savings Bank for nine years, Iowa Falls State Bank for two years, and was a cashier and stockholder at the Alden State Bank for twelve years. She had a passion for music and was a member of Etude Music Club since 1973. Dorothy was a past member of the Hardin County Bankers Association and served on many church boards and committees. Dorothy is survived by her husband of over sixty years, Duane Brouwer of Iowa Falls, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Enid Mae Thurston, Betty Lou Thurston, and Jeanne Shull.
