Duane Brouwer, 88, of Iowa Falls, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Hansen Family Hospital. Memorial services at the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls, burial in Union Cemetery. Duane Cecil Brouwer was born on April 21, 1930, to Arthur B. and Sylvia (Moberly) Brouwer. He graduated Sheffield High School, class of 1949. Duane began college in 1951 at Iowa State University, graduating in 1955 and remained an avid ISU fan. He married Dorothy Opal Thurston on June 6, 1957. Duane started the Agricultural Department at Alden Community School in 1955 and taught there for sixteen years. In 1971 he went on to be the first agriculture instructor at Ellsworth Community College. His leadership and instructional skills lead to many more successful programs in Science and Agriculture at the College. He retired from ECC in 1992. Duane and his wife Dorothy started a housing development just outside the Iowa Falls city limits, called the Brouwer and Maplehurst sub divisions. Duane and Dorothy enjoyed playing husband-wife golf tournaments with friends, traveling in a caravan with their golf carts loaded on a trailer all around the state. They looked forward to spending time with friends, church functions, and enjoyed the numerous gatherings that centered around food. Duane is survived by a sister, Darlene (Merlin) Peter of Ankeny, Iowa and his niece, Kim Murphy and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers: Elwyn, Gordon, and Ivan and two sisters, Norma and Ardella. Picture and obituary courtesy of Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls
