Son of Robert Durnford and Margaret (Killough) Durnford McLean, youngest brother to William Thomas, Ernest McKenzie, and John Killor Durnford. Robert's father: Robert Sr died in Lower Stewiacke, Nova Scotia when Robert was five weeks old. Robert's widowed mother: Margaret (Killough) Durnford immigrated to California via ship passage around Cape Horn in 1869 with her four sons ranging in age from 1.5 years to 11 years old. Robert Durnford was raised in the towns of Table Bluff, Ferndale, and Blocksburg, California. His mother re-married in 1873 to Addison McLean who operated The Overland Hotel in Blocksburg. Robert F. Durnford died on October 16, 1918 as a result of a skull fracture in a fall from Depot platform while at work at French Camp, San Joaquin County, California. He is buried in Myrtle Grove Memorial Cemetery, Eureka CA in Section F, Row 17, Plot 4. Brother of J.F., W.T. & E.M. Durnford Humboldt Times, Volume LXIX, Number 293, 20 October 1918 DIED DURNFORD— In Stockton, Cal., on Oct. 16, 1918, Robert F. Durnford, beloved brother of W. T. of Los Angeles and E. M. of Round Valley and J. K. Durnford of Eureka. Cal.; a native of Nova Scotia, aged 51 years, 3 months and 9 days. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Sunday, Oct. 20, 1918, at 3 o'clock p. m. from the Sanders Parlors, No. 621 Third street, Eureka. Cal., Rev. Charles E. Farrar of Christ Episcopal church officiating, Interment at Myrtle Grove cemetery under the auspices of Eureka Lodge No. 652, B. P. O. Elks.
