Eileen S. Skelton passed away on December 29, 2011, at the age of 95, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. After a private family burial, a Memorial Service will be at 2:00 P.M., on January 3, at the First Presbyterian Church, in Temple, with Rev. Al Krummenacher officiating. She was born on the family farm 5 miles south of Taylor, Texas, in Williamson County, on May 9, 1916, to John and Mary Mikeska Svadlenak. She graduated from Taylor High School in 1934. Then, she attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she held the honor of being selected as a Blue Bonnet Belle Nominee, by the UT Czech Club in 1935. She pursued her studies in Business Administration where she met Max DeWitt Skelton. They were married in Liberty, Texas, on May 15, 1941. After Max, her husband, finished his military career after World War II, as an officer in the U.S. Navy, Max and Eileen helped establish the Skelton Brothers Theatres with several of the Skelton Brothers and their Wives. The Skelton Theatres that were organized were the Tem-Bel Drive-In Theatre, and the Loop Drive-In Theatre in Temple; and the Circle S. Drive-In Theatre, Palace Theatre, Ritz Theatre, and the Texas Theatre in Gatesville, Texas. She is preceded in death by Max DeWitt Skelton, husband; Max Skelton Splittgerber, grandson; John and Mary Mikeska Svadlenak, parents; Alfred Svadlenak, brother; Tom Svadlenak, brother, and Stanfield Svadlenak, brother. Eileen is survived by her children Maxine Skelton Splittgerber, daughter, and husband Will, of Temple; Sara Skelton, daughter of Temple; Bill Splittgerber, grandson, and wife Sara, of Tequesta, Florida; and Matt Splittgerber, grandson, and wife Tobi Ann, of Lewisville. Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Splittgerber, grandson; Matt Splittgerber, grandson; Steve Svadlenak, nephew; Wayne Svadlenak, nephew; H.B. Skelton, nephew; Dr. Roland Skelton, nephew; Dr. Joe Frank Skelton, nephew; Judge Skelton, nephew; Barney Skelton, nephew; DeWitt Alsup, nephew; Jim Skelton, nephew; George Skelton, nephew; Dr. Buddy Lee, nephew; and Dr. Mac Lee, nephew. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 12 W. French Ave., Temple, Texas 76501.
