Bio

Donna Rae Lucas Johnson age 82, of Grand Island, formerly of Mason City, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at the Lakeview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island. Donna was born July 23, 1936, the eldest daughter of Francis H. Lucas and Enid (Royle) Lucas on the family farm southeast of Litchfield. She attended rural school at Mt. Pleasant near Mason City before the family moved to Riverton, WY. Donna completed 5th grade thru part of 11th grade at Riverton Public Schools in Wyoming before the family returned to Nebraska in 1953. She finished her Junior year in Mason City mostly by correspondence classes. Donna was a graduate of Mason City High School with the Class of 1954 and during time of graduation was employed at Schmid Drug Store in Broken Bow. On February 6, 1955, she married Norman A. Schall on the family farm near Mason City. They moved to Lawton, OK, and Fort Smith, AR because of the Armed Services. In 1957, they returned to Mason City. Two children were born to this union, Debbie Lynn – July 1957 and Timothy Neal – June 1959. Donna worked for 31 years at Becton Dickinson Vacutainer Systems in Broken Bow. She worked in the lab at the time of her retirement in 1998. On May 24, 1986, Donna married Roger L. Johnson at the First Baptist Church in Mason City. They were employed at BD in Broken Bow and made their home in Mason City. On December 23, 2013, they entered Welcov Assisted Living in Kearney. Roger passed away on July 31, 2016. Donna moved to Lakeview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Island on January 17, 2017. Donna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mason City. Over the years she taught Sunday School, Bible School, 4-H leader, belonged to the Sunshine Club. She spent time volunteering at Homeward Bible Camp, and the Library. Donna was an incredible seamstress, loved to read, camp, travel, but mostly loved the Lord and her family. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Deb (Al) Gross of Grand Island; Tim (Bambi) Schall of Mason City; step-son Michael (Carolyn) Johnson of Bellevue; and step-daughter, Connie (Jim) Ingram of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice (Judson) Burns of Mason City; Peggy (Rick) Horn of Kenesaw; lots of nieces, nephews, and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents and husband Roger.
