Thomas Lee Stewart, 80, of Carthage, TX, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 16, 2019, in Longview. He was born on Nov. 15, 1938, in the Campti Community in Shelby County, TX to the late James William “Jim” and Lonnie Mills Stewart. Mr. Stewart began his working career in the oil field and later worked at Cassity Jones in Carthage for many years until the store closed and he retired. Mr. Stewart married Wanda June Stephenson on Jan. 2, 1960, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2007. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved spending time with his great-grands. Mr. Stewart married Patsy Ruth Stephenson on Aug. 23, 2008, in Gladewater, TX. Thomas moved to Carthage in 1972, from Kilgore and was a long-time and devoted member of Northside Church of Christ. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Darnell Stewart and a sister, Retha Orman. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Stewart of Carthage; sons, David Stewart and wife Sue of Carthage and Kenneth Stewart and wife Pamela of Tyler; daughter, Anita Bridges of Carthage; step-children, Ralph Hooks, Ricky Hooks, Helen Hawkins, and Betty Jo Daniels; brother, Ray Stewart and wife Nancy of Jacksonville; sisters, Mary Hill and husband Dale of Avinger and Mavis Powell and husband O.C. of Carthage, sister-in-law, Ilene Stewart; 6 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends also survive. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2019, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Cawthon and Kerry Henry officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
