Bio

Archie Albert Mills, 94, of Mercer, passed away on Thursday , April 5, 2012 at Hospice of the Valley, Poland, Ohio. He was born November 20, 1917 in Clearville, a son of the late James Mills and Pearl (Morris) Mills and lived in Bedford County until moving to Mercer in 1947. He is survived by his wife Florence Kocholek Mill, 4 daughters, Eunice Blaze, Mary Stainbrook, Norma Wojeckowski, Betty Filer, 2 sons, Kenneth Mills and Myron Mills, a brother, Floyd Mills 2 step children, Joanne Nickel and Linda Lane 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 5 step grandchildren. He was preceded in passing away by his first wife M. Pauline (Layton) Mills, 2 sisters, Frieda Mills and Sarah Messersmith, and 4 brothers, Bill Mills, Homer Mills, Marvin Mills, and Wilmer Mills. Mr. Mills served in the United States Army as a military policeman during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Returning home to Pennsylvania after his service to his country, Archie began working as a welder for more than 34 years at Wheatland Sawhill Tubular Division in Sharon until retiring in 1982. At home he enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family, hunting, traveling and thoroughbred horse racing and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Main Street, Everett, with Rev Lyle Mellott officiating. Friends may call at Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 144 South Pitt Street, Mercer, on Saturday April 7, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, at Dalla Valle Funeral Service on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service, and share memories online at www.dallavalle-everett.com. Burial will be held at Union Memorial Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Everett Honor Guard.
