On March 11, 2019, God’s servant Daniel went to join him in heaven. Daniel wore many hats: husband, father, brother, civil servant, caregiver, coffee lover, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, and advocate for life. He was born in Grand Island, NE on February 4, 1954 to William and Ruby Jeanne Pokorney of Ravenna, NE. After 19 years in NE, Daniel and his wife Linda headed west and settled in La Grande, OR. They fell in love with the town and the community and made it their permanent home until his death. Daniel worked for Boise Cascade for 40 years, at the sawmill in La Grande and the particleboard plant in Island City. He served a number of years on the La Grande School Board and as Mayor of La Grande, in total sixteen years of elected service to the community. He was a true blooded patriotic American that loved his country. The fight for life at conception was a focal point in his later life and worked hard to spread the word on the Right to Life movement. Daniel was a hard worker and dedicated to providing a good life for his family. The family bond is strong and he always taught his children the importance of leaving a good legacy. Legacy was important to him. He was able to fulfill that legacy and pass down his story by writing a book and having it published. “Tragedy to Grace” was a lifetime goal of his and once completed he felt that his legacy will live on through the hearts of the people who read and were inspired by the book. He is survived by his brother, David Pokorney, of Pagosa Springs, CO, his son, Jason Daniel Pokorney, of Meridian ID, his daughter, DaLyn Elizabeth Anderson, of Coeur d’Alene, ID, granddaughter, Delaney Jade Pokorney, of Meridian, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruby Jeanne Pokorney, his brothers, Tommy and Billy Pokorney, his wife, Linda Louise Pokorney (Miigerl), his grandparents, Sherman and Nellie Stickney and his daughter, Diedra Marie Pokorney.
