Johnnie Daniel Hix--son of William Thomas Hix and Martha Caroline Gaston --was born 25 December 1899 in Texas, probably in Bosque County. On 12 January 1900, in Bosque County, Texas, Johnnie was recorded in the U.S. Census in the household of his parents, "William Hix" and "Margret [sic] Hix." His name was listed as "Johnnie Hix." Johnnie was recorded as a single white male, 4 months old, born January 1900 [sic] in Texas. Johnnie, listed as "John D. Hix," was recorded in the U.S. Census enumerated 7 May 1910 in Bosque County, Texas in the household of his father, "William T. Hix." John was recorded as a single white male, 10 years old, born in Texas; he could read and write, and he attended school during the year. Johnnie Daniel Hix married Brittie Barker on 5 April 1917 in Bosque County, Texas. Johnie registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Clifton, Bosque County, Texas. His name was listed as "Johnie Danniel Hix." He listed his address as Roswell, Bosque County, Texas, and his occupation as farmer. He listed his physical characteristics as follows: white, short height, medium build, blue eyes, and light hair. He stated that he was born 25 December 1889 [sic], and he was 18 years old. He listed his wife, Brittie Hix nee Barker of Roswell, Texas, as his nearest relative. In the U.S. Census enumerated 7 February 1920, Johnnie was recorded as the head of a household in Bosque County, Texas. The census record showed his name as "John Hix." Members of this household, as listed in the census record, included himself and his wife, Brittie Hix. John was recorded as a white male, 20 years old, married, and born in Texas; he worked on his own account as a farmer on a general farm that he owned free of mortgage, and he could read and write. On 10 April 1930, in Hill County, Texas, John was recorded in the U.S. Census in the household of his brother, "Lanhan R. Hicks." His name was listed as "John D. Hicks." John was recorded as a single white male, 29 years old, born in Texas; he worked as a farm laborer, and he could read and write. Johnnie, listed as "Johnny Hix," was recorded as a roomer in the household of "Florence Taylor" in the U.S. Census enumerated 5 April 1940 at 1516 Crockett Street in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Johnny was recorded as a white male, 40 years old, married, and born in Texas. He worked as a truck driver on an oil field, his income in 1939 was listed as $200, and the highest level of education he achieved was eighth grade. Johnnie lived in Whitney, Hill County, Texas in 1935. Johnnie Daniel Hix married Bertha ("Bettie") Zimmerman Hunke , daughter of Wilhelm ("William") Zimmermann and Maria ("Mary") Hykel , sometime after 1940 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. She was Johnnie's second wife, and he was Bettie's third husband. Johnnie Daniel Hix died at age 60 on 15 September 1960 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Johnnie's death certificate states that he was a truck driver, he had lived in Houston for 24 years, and he died from a hemorrhage related to an unspecified liver condition. He was buried 16 September 1960 in the Taylor City Cemetery located in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas.
