Bio

Dorothy M. Sonka, 89, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019, in Arlington, Texas, after a long battle with Dementia. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Dorothy was born on June 11, 1929, in Ennis, Texas, to the late Ladislav "Leslie" J. and Rosie Emma (Kouba) Jarolimek. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1946. She was a resident of Arlington, Texas, for over 60 years. She worked as a telephone operator for over ten years. She was very proud of her Czech Heritage and enjoyed polka dancing and going to the Polka Festival each year in Ennis. In her younger years, she enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and gardening. Her family and friends were very important to her and she enjoyed family holidays, get-togethers and going to breakfast on Sunday morning with her special group of friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie “Sonny” Jarolimek; and sisters, Betty Anthony and Rosie Myers. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Sonka and Dana Shoemaker; grandson, Jeff Shoemaker, Jr.; sister, Marjorie Miller and her husband, Eddie; along with a host of extended family and friends.
