The Free Press, Grand Island Nebraska; Friday, 15 Feb. 1901, page 1 Dead. Mrs. Sophia Marie Schaaf died at her home three miles east of Grand Island this morning at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 4 days. Mrs. Schaaf met with an accident a few days ago by falling from one room into another and down an incline of two steps during which she sustained a broken hip. This accident was the cause of her death. She continued to grow worse gradually until the end came. Funeral services will be held Friday forenoon at eleven o'clock. The deceased leaves a husband and five children, three sons and two daughters to mourn her departure as follows: Henry, aged 37, August 33, William 39, Mrs. Jahn, 40 and Mrs. Minnie Agustus, 35 years old. The Press extends sympathy to the bereaved members of the family. ***** Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Tuesday, 12 February 1901, page 3 Mrs. Sophia Schaaf, residing about a mile east of this city is reported to be very low, her condition being the result of a severe fall. The accident occurred in the house, there being a step from one door to another. The lady is seventy years of age. In the fall she sustained a broken limb. *** Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Thursday, 14 February 1901, page 3 The funeral of Mrs. Sophia Mary Magdalena Schaaf will occur from the residence three miles east of city tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. The deceased came to her death as the result of a fall sustained some days ago. Mrs. Schaaf was 71 years of age. Her husband died a few years ago. She leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn her loss. The family is well known being old residents of Hall county.
